KUALA LUMPUR: Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said a new chairman for the National Film Development Corporation (Finas) will be announced soon.
"I have signed the appointment letter and we are waiting for the process (of appointment).
"InsyaAllah, I will announce the new Finas chairman soon," he told a press conference in Dewan Rakyat today.
Yesterday, the Malaysian Film Producers Association (PFM) called for Fahmi to expedite the appointment of a new Finas chairman and board members.
Its president Panchachram P Nalliah said Finas was unable to carry out its function because the chairman and board members had yet to be appointed.
Previously, the chairman of Finas was Datuk Seri Zurainah Musa. Her service had been terminated on Dec 9.
Meanwhile, Fahmi said a chairman for the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commissions (MCMC) will also be announced soon.
"This will be announced by March 1," he said.
On Jan 9, MCMC announced the appointment of Datuk Muhammad Azmi Mohd Zain as interim chairman effective Jan 5.
Earlier, Fahmi and his deputy Teo Nie Ching visited the media room in parliament. They spent some 20 minutes with media personnel. - NST
