KUALA LUMPUR: Berjaya Land Bhd has appointed Chester Voo as CEO for group aviation effective today.

Berjaya Land said in a statement that Voo would oversee the airlines under the group, namely Berjaya Air, Asia Jet and Rafflesia Airways.

Voo is a veteran in the aviation industry with 29 years of experience.

Before his appointment, he was the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) CEO from June 2020 to December 2022, where he led the aviation safety regulator through the Covid-19 crisis and regained its Category 1 rating from the US Federal Aviation Administration, enabling Malaysian carriers to enter and add flights to the US.

Voo began his career as a pilot with Malaysia Airlines in 1993, and subsequently joined AirAsia in 2008 where he was involved in flight operations, before joining CAAM.

Berjaya Corp Bhd (BCorp) founder and chairman Vincent Tan said he was confident the group’s aviation business was in good hands under Voo to expand and grow.

Berjaya Land deputy executive chairman and BCorp joint group CEO Syed Ali Shahul Hameed said Voo’s experience and knowledge would be an asset to the company. - FMT
