Jakim implements 30pct use of Jawi in promo materials, publications

 

PARLIAMENT | The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) has implemented a policy for 30 percent of its promotional materials and publications to use Jawi writing, as a step to re-dignify the script.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Mohd Nai'im Mokhtar said the department also has officers appointed as “Munsyi Jawi” by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) to assist in the correct use of Jawi writing for the department's official affairs.

Responding to a question raised by Mumtaz Md Nawi (PN-Tumpat) in Parliament on whether the government would re-examine the use of the current Jawi spelling compared to the Jawi Za'ba spelling so that the words did not go astray from their original meaning, Nai'im (above) said Jakim would review it.

Meanwhile, he said 30 tahfiz institutions had implemented Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes so far.

He said the programmes could be expanded to other religious primary schools in collaboration with the Skills Development Department, GiatMARA community college and several related agencies.
