Muda: We expect better communication from govt

Despite not being a signatory of the coalition pact signed in January, Muda said it expects better communication from the government when it comes to holding official meetings in the future.

Muda secretary-general Amir Hariri Abd Hadi insisted that his party is one of the founding members in forming and supporting the federal government.

This comes after Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today said that the government's first secretariat meeting, which he chaired at the Umno headquarters on Tuesday, was only meant for parties that founded the government.

PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli today also explained that Muda was not invited to the meeting as it was only for signatories of the coalition agreement.

“I don’t understand what is meant by founding parties.

“Although we didn’t sign (the coalition agreement), we are also founding members of this government, right?

“Without us, the government won’t be what it is today,” Amir said when contacted by Malaysiakini.

He then stressed the importance of better communication among parties that formed the government, regardless of the party’s size.

“Whether the party only has one, three, or four seats, we all formed the government.

“What’s wrong with informing us of any meetings or decisions made?

“It’s really simple! They can just inform us informally via text message. Let’s work together,” Amir said, adding that all parties have a role to play and have to answer to their members and supporters.

In a statement later, Amir added that Muda has asked for an official meeting through requests sent via email, WhatsApp messages, and hand-delivered mail since last year.

“There was no official communication at all since we attended the signing of the unity government agreement,” he said.

Yesterday, Amir took to Twitter to vent his frustrations after Muda was kept in the dark about the government’s first secretariat meeting.

He said Muda did not receive an invitation to attend the meeting nor was the party informed about it.

After the meeting, Anwar announced that all parties in the government gave their commitment to work together in the upcoming elections for six states.

Leaders from other parties in the federal government including BN, Pakatan Harapan, GPS, GRS, and Warisan were present at the meeting.

It is understood that besides Muda, the Sabah-based Social Democratic Harmony Party (KDM) was also not represented at the meeting.

In last November’s national polls, Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman retained the Muar parliamentary seat. He is the only candidate from his party that managed to win.- Mkini
