Local actor Aeril Zafrel has threatened to sue six individuals who claimed that he and his wife, Wawa Zainal, were paid by Perikatan Nasional (PN) to promote the coalition in the lead-up to the 15th general election (GE15).
Taking to Twitter, Aeril (above), whose real name is Suhairil Sunari, said he would give 24 hours (from 3pm yesterday) for netizens making the allegations to publicly apologise and delete their postings, while efforts to trace their IP addresses are underway.
He further dared the netizens to back their allegations with police and MACC reports.
“Don’t forget to back up the report with evidence that can support your claims. If you dare, send me your full names and addresses, as well as phone numbers, to ease the process.
“I can’t wait to see you all. By right, I should not be entertaining you, but I have to ‘celebrate’ your rudeness,” he wrote in a series of tweets while sharing screenshots of the said netizens’ posts and account details.
Aeril said he could sue them for damaging his reputation but wanted to give them a chance to be mature and own up to their mistakes.
“I hope you won’t be stubborn and regret it later. For others who want to make similar allegations, I suggest you do it soon as it would be easier for me to proceed,” he quipped, adding that the action is taken in his and his wife’s personal capacity and had no political links.
Earlier this week, a netizen publicly apologised to Aeril and his wife after accusing the couple of getting paid to promote PN during the general election.
Azrulfitri Azimi admitted his mistake in making claims without prior checks as many social media influencers were said to have received payments to promote the opposition coalition. He has since deactivated his Twitter account.
Last November, Aeril denied claims that he was paid to promote PN for the election. - Mkini
