PBM announces new leadership line-up, post internal power struggle

Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) yesterday announced its new leadership line-up in a restructuring process that it said would strengthen and rebrand the party.

This comes just over a month after an internal power struggle that led to the sacking of its president-designate, Zuraida Kamaruddin, and 10 others in December, which also saw several top leaders stripped of their positions.

In a statement, PBM’s Information and Communications Department said the party’s Supreme Council in a meeting on Feb 10 decided to appoint Steven Choong and Wong Anak Judat as its deputy presidents.

Choong replaced former Selangor state exco member Haniza Mohamed Talha, who was stripped of the position in the December purge. Wong remained in his position.

The party also named Paul Yong as its senior vice-president, Chua Lian Chye as vice-president, former Sri Aman MP Masir Kujat (secretary-general) and Engga Anak Unchat (treasurer).

Masir replaces Nor Hizwan Ahmad, who is known to be aligned with Zuraida and was among those given the boot by PBM.

Former Sarawak PKR Women’s chief Agnes Padan

Former Sarawak PKR Women’s chief Agnes Padan was named as PBM’s new Women’s chief. She replaces Daroyah Alwi, who was stripped of her position in December.

A power struggle ensued in the party after its AGM in October decided that Zuraida would officially take over the party leadership from president Larry Sng.

The move was then also approved by a supreme council meeting.

However, Sng (above) threw a wrench in the plan, saying he was still the party president as per the Registrar of Societies.

Sng, who is Julau MP, remains the party president under the restructuring exercise. - Mkini
