Salahuddin: Harapan expecting fresh overtures from Pejuang

 

Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub said Pakatan Harapan may have to consult its partner BN should Pejuang wish to enter the pact.

"Our recent meeting at the World Trade Centre agreed that Harapan and BN should focus on (existing relations), without new cooperation with other coalitions or parties.

"Based on my experience, we will wait to hear from Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir, who perhaps wants an official meeting.

"After that, Harapan can either make a decision or discuss the matter with BN. Only then can Harapan state their position on Pejuang," Salahuddin (above) said in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, according to Utusan Malaysia.

Salahuddin was responding to reports on Kedah Harapan leader Mahfuz Omar's recent meeting with Mukhriz, where the latter stated Pejuang's intention to collaborate with Harapan for the forthcoming state election.

Recent reports have suggested that Mukhriz also approached Kedah PAS chief Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.

Mahfuz said he had proposed that Mukhriz and Pejuang secretary-general Amirudin Hamzah should consider joining Amanah.

"I proposed that he join Amanah to give them a better chance during the coming state election.

"They have not decided on this," he said.

Both Mukhriz and Amirudin have won seats in Kedah. Moreover, Mukhriz was a two-time Kedah menteri besar.

However, Mukhriz was not able to keep his deposit when he was fielded as Pejuang's candidate in the 15th general election for the Jerlun parliamentary seat - which he previously held for two terms. - Mkini
