Umno submitted all information to ROS over no-contest resolution

Umno has submitted all the information required by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) regarding its no-contest resolution for the party's top two posts.

Party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that the necessary information and explanation were submitted by Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan.

He added that the party has met with the ROS twice over the resolution that was passed during the 2022 Umno general assembly (AGM) held last month.

“We were given 60 days to provide a detailed explanation. I believe our secretary-general has fulfilled ROS’ requests and provided all necessary information,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama today.

Zahid was speaking at a press conference after the Rural and Regional Development Ministry's monthly assembly in Putrajaya.

The deputy prime minister reiterated that the Umno AGM complied with the “rules that have been set” and the party’s constitution.

However, Zahid urged the ROS to “act fairly” by listening to the explanations from all sides to maintain harmony between the party’s leadership and its members.

“We don't want various interpretations to arise in the party,” the Bagan Datuk MP added.

On Jan 20, two Umno members filed a notice of objection to the ROS over the resolution to not open Umno’s top two posts for a contest.

Muhammad Fiqri Firdaus Muhammad Rom and Aizat Fikri Mohd Nasir claimed the resolution was invalid and contravened the party’s constitution.

ROS director-general Nawardi Saad confirmed that it was investigating the notice of objection.

ROS was reported to have had meetings with Umno representatives on Jan 21 and 31.

Meanwhile, Zahid said the party has yet to receive any appeal from suspended members during the party’s purge last month.

“I did not receive (any) appeal letter (from the suspended members)... (if they give the letter) I will accept it and submit it to the disciplinary board to be reviewed,” he said.

Zahid said this when asked if Sembrong MP Hishammuddin Hussein and former Tiram assemblyperson Maulizan Bujang had submitted their appeals.

The two Umno members were suspended for six years on Jan 27, alongside former information chief Shahril Hamdan Suffian and former Jempol MP Salim Sharif.

Former Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin and ex-Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar were sacked for breaching party discipline during the 15th general election.

Five Umno members from Pasir Gudang, nine from Putrajaya, two from Tanjong Karang, and 26 from Pahang were also sacked. - Mkini
