Perikatan Nasional can capture Selangor and Negeri Sembilan if Khairy Jamaluddin is allowed to contest under the coalition's ticket in the upcoming state elections, a Bersatu leader has claimed.
Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal said this is because the sacked Umno leader is capable of creating a "new wave" among young voters who are on the fence in the six state polls.
"If Umno considers Khairy (above, right) a burden, Bersatu sees him as an asset who's capable of creating a new wave in the country's political arena. So we are willing to accept Khairy if he accepts our proposal.
"Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin had earlier on said that Khairy is more than welcome to join the party. But whether Khairy will consider the offer, you have to ask him," Wan Fayhsal was quoted as saying by Utusan.
The Machang MP stressed that PN is willing to allow Khairy to contest in any state seat in Selangor or Negeri Sembilan if he joins Bersatu soon.
Khairy was sacked from Umno on Jan 28, believed to be over disparaging remarks he made against the party leadership during the GE15 campaign.
The former health minister recently said that he is mulling offers to run for public office in Selangor, including that of menteri besar.
Khairy, however, did not reveal which party offered him the "comeback" opportunity.
Asked about his recent meeting with Khairy, Wan Fayhsal declined to comment further, leaving it to the public to gauge for themselves based on the former's statement about contesting in Selangor.
Wan Fayhsal shot down claims that PN was so short of quality leaders that the coalition was willing to accept "outsiders" like Khairy into its fold.
"Politics is like a football match, we need imported players to win. The same goes for Khairy. He's useless to Umno, but to PN, he's very much needed for Malaysia's future." - Mkini
