Be fair, says suspended Tajuddin after Ku Li’s warning on backstabbers

Tajuddin Abdul Rahman was suspended by Umno in October for criticising the party.

PETALING JAYA: Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, suspended by Umno in October, has urged party adviser Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah to be fair towards members who have filed appeals against disciplinary action taken against them.

The former Pasir Salak Umno divisional leader said Tengku Razaleigh should not make a general statement about those he described as “backstabbers” if he refused to name them.

“Who is the enemy? Name them, and be fair. You issued a general statement without naming anyone, is that good?” Tajuddin told FMT.

Tengku Razaleigh, who is known as Ku Li, had said in an FMT interview on Saturday that Umno would be inviting disaster if it allowed the return of “backstabbers” simply because state elections are around the corner.

He said Umno would be destroyed if it is not firm in enforcing discipline despite demands to the party’s top brass to accept former members or retract the punishment.

Tajuddin said Tengku Razaleigh should give the right advice to the party’s leadership if he wants to strengthen Umno. “If he gave the right advice, Umno would not be facing this problem. Is he giving the right advice or is he just an ‘adviser’ in name?” he said.

He urged the Umno leadership to make a decision regarding the three appeals he had filed, the latest in March, which did not receive any response.

Tajuddin was suspended in October, following criticisms against party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s leadership.

At the Umno general assembly last week, Zahid said Umno was willing to accept its former members and those who have been suspended based on their attitude after being punished.

Besides Tajuddin, other members who were suspended include former vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein, former information chief Shahril Hamdan, former Jempol MP Salim Sharif and former Tebrau division chief Maulizan Bujang.

The party also sacked former youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and former Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar for breaching party discipline and for offences against the party’s constitution during the 2022 general election. - FMT
