Cops seize syabu, ganja worth RM3.7mil in condo raids

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have seized 143kg of drugs worth RM3.7 million and arrested two men in raids on two condominiums in the federal capital.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the raids focused on condominiums in Taman Segambut Aman and Jalan Ampang, between 6pm and 11pm on Tuesday.

The suspects, aged 39 and 48, had been using the locations since May this year, he told a press conference today.

Shuhaily said the drugs, comprising 108kg of syabu and 35kg of ganja, were believed to have been smuggled in from a neighbouring country.

The gang was known for using luxury condominiums to store drugs meant for distribution to the local market, he added.

Police also seized two cars – a Toyota Estima and Perodua Alza – and RM30,500 in cash during the operation.

“Investigations show the local suspect was unemployed and served as a runner for the Iranian, an engineer with three children.

“The Iranian entered Malaysia using a tourist visa in May. We believe he was the supplier and has been involved with the syndicate since 2014 when he was in Iran,” he said.

He said the local man tested positive for methamphetamine. Both suspects have been remanded until June 20. - FMT
