DAP will go "all out" to help Umno candidates in the upcoming state elections, said its deputy secretary-general Nga Kor Ming.
Commenting on speeches at the Umno general assembly over the weekend, he said all parties in the unity government should focus on their efforts to ensure stability and not dredge up past problems.
Nga (above) said he backed Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's statement that all component parties must unite to defend the unity government.
"The Umno president has 'moved on' and now our focus is how we can help Umno and vice-versa to strengthen Malaysia Madani for the people and political stability.
"We will go all out for Umno in the upcoming elections," he told reporters in Ipoh, Perak yesterday, according to Sinar Harian.
During the recently-concluded Umno general assembly, the party's relationship with long-time enemy DAP was a thorny subject.
Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh, in his policy speech, called on DAP to publicly apologise to Umno over condemnations made when the parties were foes.
However, this did not gain much traction with the party’s top brass.
Akmal would later clarify that his speech was not a sign of fissures but instead a manifestation of the sentiments from the Umno grassroots.
He said Umno Youth will continue to work with all allies, including its DAP counterparts. - Mkini
