‘Kedah owns Penang’ issue: Cops to record Sanusi’s statement on June 7

KUALA LUMPUR: The police will call up Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor on Wednesday (June 7) in connection with his statement that Penang belongs to the state.

Police secretary Deputy Comm Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said the police received a report on the matter.

"We have opened an investigation paper and will be recording his statement on Wednesday," she said in a statement on Tuesday (June 6).

The investigation is conducted by the Bukit Aman CID Special Investigation Unit (USJT), she said.

"The case is classified under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998," she added.

Muhammad Sanusi has come under a barrage of criticism recently over his remarks that Penang belongs to Kedah and that the Federal Constitution needs to be amended to accommodate findings made by historians and experts in Kedah.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had said that he received one report from the police against the Mentri Besar for issuing statements that the Constitution should be amended so that Penang can be returned to Kedah as well as there was strong evidence, based on the law, that Penang belongs to Kedah.

"As someone who is in a high position, such statements are irresponsible. The police have initiated their investigation based on the existing laws, to ensure the remarks that go against the principles of the Constitution and the law, will not be repeated.

"Some of the reports have been submitted to the Attorney General and are awaiting action," he said at the Dewan Rakyat. - Star
