Nik Nazmi awaiting reports on proposed road through tiger conservation park

RimbaWatch wants an EIA report for a road that will allegedly cut through a tiger conservation park in Pahang to be revoked.

KUALA LUMPUR: Natural resources, environment and climate change minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad is waiting for reports on the construction of a road that might pass through a tiger conservation park in Pahang.

Nik Nazmi said the project comes under the rural and regional development ministry.

“I am getting full details on the matter from the environment department (as they) deal with environment impact assessment (EIA) reports, and also Perhilitan, as they deal with our tiger population,” he said on the sidelines of an event here today.

“I want to get the reports first before commenting.”

On Monday, the NGO RimbaWatch called for the environment department to revoke the approval of an EIA report for a proposed road that will allegedly cut through a tiger conservation park in Pahang.

RimbaWatch warned that the proposed road will lead to deforestation, which will affect wildlife in the area and expose endangered species to harm and poaching.

It also claimed that while the EIA report for the proposed road was approved in 2022, its contents were never made public. - FMT
