No need to declassify PJD Link agreement, says works minister

Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi said there is no need to declassify the PJD Link concession agreement.

“At the moment, there is no need to declassify because there are various aspects to this document.

“There are legal implications and other factors,” Alexander said at a press conference today.

The proposed 25.4km PJD Link Expressway in Selangor connects the Sprint highway in Damansara to the Bukit Jalil highway in Bandar Kinrara.

The minister was speaking after a launching ceremony for Phase 2 of the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (Suke).

Also present was Prolintas chairperson Idris Kechot.

Last week, three PKR MPs - Wong Chen (Subang), Lee Chean Chung (Petaling Jaya), and William Leong Jee Keen (Selayang) - urged the government to consider declassifying PJD Link’s concession agreement which was under the Official Secrets Act (OSA) 1972.

Leong said he did not see why a highway concessionaire’s deal should be secret.

He said the information is required for the public to judge whether they are getting value for their money.

PJD Link (M) Sdn Bhd is the concessionaire of the proposed PJD Link Expressway, a 25.4-km, two-lane dual carriageway expressway that commences after the NKVE toll plaza on Sprint Highway, Damansara.

It ends at the Bukit Jalil highway interchange.

The project is aimed at easing traffic congestion and caters to future vehicle growth in the greater Kuala Lumpur and Klang Valley area.

PJD Link signed a concession agreement with the government on April 5, 2022.

Meanwhile, Alexander said the opening of the Suke highway will disperse traffic density, especially along Middle Ring Road (MRR2).

“That is our objective in highways and elevated highways construction so there will be no congestion.

“There will be a decrease in congestion when Suke construction is done,” he said. - Mkini
