Puad claims Muhyiddin willing to work with Dr M for 'mega donation'

A senior Umno leader has alleged that Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin may have an ulterior motive behind his apparent willingness to rekindle strained ties with former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Umno supreme council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi said since Bersatu's funds remain frozen amid an MACC probe, Perikatan Nasional may require a "mega donation" for the upcoming six state election campaigns.

"Muhyiddin once again ready to work with Mahathir even though he (Mahathir) has no party. That is not surprising," said Puad (above, left) on Facebook today.

Mahathir, who left Umno to found Bersatu - with Muhyiddin joining as president - eventually left the party to set up Pejuang, which he also recently quit.

"Muhyiddin is probably friends again with Mahathir due to the money factor and Mahathir still has a lot of money and resources.

"We will see how PN offers charity during the state election later," Puad added.

He also took a swipe at PAS as he claimed the party had benefited from PN's "lavish spending" during the 15th general election.

"So now Bersatu's account is frozen. Can PN win without mega donations?

"That is why Muhyiddin must kowtow (bow) to Mahathir," Puad claimed.

For race and religion

On Friday, Muhyiddin welcomed Mahathir's remark on working together for the Malay cause.

The Pagoh MP, who is on trial for four counts of abuse of power and three money laundering charges, said the latest political developments have put Malays and Islam in the country at a crossroads.

"Thus, as a Muslim, I personally am willing to work with any Malay-Muslim leader, including Mahathir, to champion the race, religion, and country," said Muhyiddin in response to a news report that quoted Mahathir.

In an interview with Malaysia Now, the nonagenarian was asked whether he was willing to work with Muhyiddin again in any aspect for the country's future.

Mahathir did not provide a concrete answer but merely said that he is willing to cooperate with anyone who shares the same objective on race and religion. - Mkini
