Rep tells council to brief Sierramas, Valencia residents about project

Seven residents’ associations are worried that a rumoured 3,000-unit serviced apartment project in the Sierramas and Valencia neighbourhoods could worsen traffic congestion in the area.

PETALING JAYA: Bukit Lanjan assemblyman Elizabeth Wong has called on the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) to brief residents of the Sierramas and Valencia housing developments in Sungai Buloh to address concerns about a rumoured new development there.

Wong’s request was made after she met with seven affected residents’ associations last Saturday.

“During the meeting, the residents updated me on the (social impact) survey form they were given, and we discussed problems that may arise, such as accessibility and water availability in the area,” she told FMT.

She said she had asked MPS’ head of town planning, Noriza Bahari, to furnish the residents with information about the project.

“Noriza said there have been no submissions for any 3000-unit commercial development to date,” she said.

Despite the assurance, Wong said, a briefing session must take place to allay fears among the residents.

Damansara MP Gobind Singh Deo acknowledged that the residents have good reason to be concerned and assured them that the matter will be addressed promptly.

“I have asked for more information and a response from MPS as well as suggestions on how we can work towards resolving the problem,” he said.

“I hope to get these soon before meeting all (concerned) parties.”

Last Tuesday, FMT reported fears among seven residents’ associations that a proposed 3,000-unit serviced apartment project could exacerbate traffic congestion for more than 10,000 residents in the Sierramas and Valencia neighbourhoods.

The residents’ associations submitted a joint protest letter to MPS on Feb 14, but have not received a response from the town council despite sending several reminders.

FMT has been attempting to reach MPS for comment. - FMT
