Selangor caretaker Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said the official cars of those in the administration will be returned to the state a few days before nomination day of the upcoming state polls.
“We will stop using the official cars before nomination day. For now, there are several sub-committee meetings that need to be attended or chaired by the caretaker administration.
“So, a day or two before the nomination announcement is made, the cars would be returned,” Amirudin (above) said, as reported by The Star today.
He added that state executive council members have been told not to use official cars during political events or the campaigning period.
For the record, the Selangor government has 11 Toyota Camry 2.5 cars for official use.
Official business
It was reported that the Selangor state legislative assembly had been officially dissolved today, paving the way for the state polls to be held.
Selangor is one of six states to hold their state elections after the 15th general election was held in November last year. The other five states are Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu.
Kelantan was the first of the six to dissolve its state assembly yesterday.
On Wednesday, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun said all executive members of the state administration will return their official cars before the start of the campaigning period of the state polls.
While they are still technically allowed to use the official vehicles in that period due to their caretaker government role, they have decided against it, he said.
“We will only use the cars if there is official business. Otherwise, we will not be using the vehicles or any other government facilities for campaign purposes although there is no law against this,” Aminuddin said. - Mkini
