MCA president Wee Ka Siong has stepped down as Johor Bahru MCA chief - a post he has held for 15 years.
He had previously served as the division’s secretary for 15 years before that.
Bernama reported that Wee (above) decided not to defend his post as the Johor Bahru division chief in today’s party election to make way for fresh leadership.
Bong Seng Heng was elected as his replacement.
In a Facebook post, Wee said that the division has been with him through many parts of his life.
“This division has witnessed many significant moments of my life, including my wedding and becoming a certified engineer.
“Many of the comrades from this division have shared these important milestones with me and seen me climb up the ladder to lead the party,” he said.
MCA has been holding divisional elections since April and is due to conclude this month.
Central leadership elections will be held in September in order to avoid a clash with the six state elections. - Mkini
