Ronnie Liu to quit DAP: 'No more partisan politics'

Brown Cheetah9736: Sungai Pelek assemblyperson Ronnie Liu is basically saying he doesn’t support DAP but supports Pakatan Harapan and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. So, is he joining PKR next? Let’s analyse Liu’s inconsistencies.

One of Liu’s biggest gripes, according to him, was DAP’s wrong decision in supporting former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad (then Bersatu chairperson) previously, which he was proven right. But he shouldn’t blame DAP entirely for this.

It was largely Anwar’s decision for Mahathir to link up with Harapan and eventually, despite misgivings within DAP itself, it became a coalition decision. Yet, Liu is saying that he still stands by Anwar.

The other big “disagreement” that Liu had with the leadership was DAP’s shift towards multiculturalism which he perceived as sacrificing DAP’s Chinese chauvinist roots. But he should understand that DAP had long won the “war” on Chinese support against MCA and had to broaden its base beyond the minorities.

If they don’t, by all accounts, the minority share of the population demographics will fall to below 20 percent by the next decade and DAP will then lose all its significance. Therefore, it is the right decision to attract better-educated, professional members/candidates across all races for long-term survival.

He should reflect on these. Otherwise, he will just be another bitter (former DAP leader) Kua Kia Soong, sniping at DAP from the sidelines.

Pink: Liu is a politician of a bygone era. He is in the mould of DAP senior leader Lim Kit Siang, the party’s national chairperson Lim Guan Eng, and Umno supreme council members Mohd Puad Zarkashi and Lokman Noor Adam, who are perceived as ‘loudmouth, aggressive, and somewhat racist’.

Malaysian culture is more refined now. Malaysians prefer thinking politicians, who are intelligent, soft-spoken, and subtle. For those reasons, politicians like DAP leaders Anthony Loke, Yeo Bin Yin, Hannah Yeoh, and former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin are popular.

DAP has changed, now softer, more participative, and more multiracial.

But people like Liu resolutely cling to his antiquated ideas and manners, and now feeling alienated within his own party. Politics is dynamic and politicians must move with time.

People like Liu and presently, feudalistic leaders in Umno have failed to change, they will be left behind, and deservedly so.

I am a Malaysian: If I am not mistaken, Liu’s frequent past clashes with other members of DAP were said to be due to his staunchly pro-Chinese and non-partisan views. For example, he would not support any compromise by DAP with other non-Chinese political parties, even for the sake of national rapprochement and unity among the multi-racial community.

Now Liu is reported to be leaving DAP as he supposedly no longer wants partisan politics; what does that mean? And if Liu plans to continue being active in politics, where will be his place in Harapan as he says he will continue supporting Anwar?

Liu has more to lose than DAP in this parting of ways, of that, I am sure.

Man on the Silver Mountain: Liu may have some ideas, but he is not a team player. So, out you go. He is a thorn in the DAP flesh. It is good that he goes, he is not bigger than the club.

A loose cannonball is hard to manage and may cause instability in the party and the government.

You cannot forever go on with your child's play, the party is in the government, ruling the country. It must learn to play its part. Do not be unrealistic, do not think that you are bigger than your colleagues.

Steve Ong: DAP now is like MCA, submissive to PKR. Liu speaks the fact and truth and so spooks the Muslims who believe in the promises and benefits of the government.

This government will never bring peace and prosperity to Malaysia, it is just another partisan government for its own benefit, existing in the name of guarding the created rights of the Muslims.

Most probably, Liu quit because he was not selected for the coming six state elections. Enough is enough. Following wrongs will only bring curses. Partisan politics is evil.

Like Penang Gerakan's Mok Kok On who spoke the truth (regarding the civil service, which could backfire on Perikatan Nasional), he was scolded and punished. The Malay Muslim agenda is wrong and bad for a country to prosper. The over-bloated civil service dominated by the Malays is a fact.

Previously, Liu saw the wrongs of Mahathir and spoke out about it. Now, he sees the wrongs in Anwar but had to keep his mouth shut. Too many hypocrites hampering the progress of Malaysia.

Hatred Stirs Up Conflict: Liu, if I am not mistaken, you may not be selected for the coming state election, thus you cannot accept it. Always remember, who were the hands that guided you and fed you all these years, so to speak? Be gracious.

Even though you're not on the front line of the soon-to-be state battle, you have every obligation to ensure the country is still in good hands.
