Introduce special AirBorneo fares for Sarawakians, says state DAP Youth

Sarawak DAP Youth has suggested that state-owned regional airline AirBorneo introduce special fares for holders of MyKad bearing the Sarawakian ‘K’ indicator.

The Borneo Post reported Sarawak DAP Youth secretary George Lam as saying the initiative would ensure Sarawakians could truly benefit from having their own state-owned airline.

His proposal was in response to AirBorneo’s announcement of promotional fares for its new Kuching-Kuala Lumpur route, with one-way economy class tickets priced from RM375 all-in under the “Sarawakku Sayang” campaign.

While acknowledging that the fares included checked baggage, seat selection and in-flight meals, Lam said many Sarawakians were disappointed with the pricing.

He suggested that the airline allow passengers to choose whether they required checked baggage, seat selection and other ancillary services.

Lam said the Kuching-Kuala Lumpur route was primarily used by Sarawakians for business and short trips, many of whom did not require a generous baggage allowance and had no preference for seat selection.

“I suggest that AirBorneo introduce more flexible fare options, thereby reducing the overall cost of air travel,” he said. - FMT
