The Abandoned Property Owners Malaysia (Victims) said that BN can be sure of about 4,000 votes in the Ampang and Gombak parliamentary constituencies if it manages to solve the abandoned Ukay Bistari housing project issue.
“We can give him Ampang and Gombak, held by two PKR leaders (Wanita chief) Zuraida Kamaruddin and (deputy president) Azmin Ali,” Victims president Dr Mohamed Rafick Abdul Rahman said today.
For this to happen, he said, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak must sack Housing and Local Government Minister Chor Chee Heung and form a special task force to take action against the recalcitrant developers.
He said that Chor must be sacked for absolving UK Bistari project developer Damai Bistari Sdn Bhd of guilt, and for “saying they are good developers” last year.
“We also want the prime minister to put on hold and review the decision to award the West Coast Highway project,” he said, referring to the project awarded to Kumpulan Europlus Bhd (KEuro)
Mohamed Rafick claims that KEuro’s president and chief executive officer Tan Ah Chye is linked to Damai Bistari, which is the UK Bistari project developer.
Damai Bistari features in KEuro Group’s 2004 financial statement, whereby the shareholders authorised a transaction between the two companies.
“How can a company (UK Bistari) blacklisted by the Housing and Local Government Ministry be awarded a highway project by another ministry?” he asked.
Asked if there is not enough time for the prime minister to heed their demands, Mohamed Rafick said that the PM is a powerful person who can act immediately.
“Yesterday he just gave houses to nine Kampung Buah Pala families who refused the Penang government deal,” he said.
‘Willing to engage the next BN minister’
While acknowledging that their votes for BN in the previous elections had come to naught, he said Victims is willing to engage the next BN minister, if the PM is willing to work with them.

“Whether he will do a better job (than Chor), we will engage him,” he said.
He also called on other victims of abandoned projects to join their movement to give it more clout as “the government is not listening to us now”.
Victims will later today file an application in relation to an order to liquidate Damai Bistari.
“What Victims wants to do is to file an application to stay the winding-up until the project is completed,” said the NGO’s lawyer, Syahredzan Johan.
One thousand three hundred families are affected by the Ukay Bistari project in Hulu Kelang, which has been delayed for nine years.
