Court issues arrest warrant against Umno MP

The Kuala Lumpur High Court has issued an arrest warrant against Sabak Bernam MP Abdul Rahman Bakri from Umno, for failing to attend a court proceeding.
NONEAbdul Rahman is the chairperson of Majuikan Sdn Bhd, which in November last year had been ordered to pay RM2.3 million in a suit brought by Benzteel Sdn Bhd against United Trade Arena (M) Sdn Bhd. Majuikan is a third-party in the suit.
When contacted, counsel for the plaintiff, A Saha Deva, said Abdul Rahman (left), as one of Majuikan’s directors, had failed to attend execution proceedings.

“The directors failed to present themselves in court to explain why they not making payment for the judgment sum,” said the lawyer.

Subsequently, the High Court issued an arrest warrant recently and it would be executed today.

“The bailif will try to execute the warrant of arrest today,” said Saha Deva.
MP surrenders to court

Abdul Rahman was not seen in Parliament as of 2pm today.
Later this afternoon, The Sun Daily reported that Abdul Rahman had surrendered at the court, along with former University Putra Malaysia (UPM) vice-chancellor Prof Nik Mustapha R Abdullah and National Fishermen’s Association (Nekmat) chairperson Mohamad Dolmat.

The daily reported that the trio did not appear in court on March 30 for a hearing. The arrest warrants against them were withdrawn after they appeared before the Kuala Lumpur High Court (Commercial Division).
On March 1, Abdul Rahman and his aide were convicted by the Shah Alam Sessions Court of making false claims when the former was a state legislative assembly member.

They were each sentenced to serve six years’ jail and fined RM400,000.
