Penang Chief Minister LimGuan Eng will be visiting Bangkok, Thailand on 4th till 5th April 2012 to reciprocate the recent official visit by the Mayor of Bangkok His Royal Highness Sukhumbhand Paribatra to Penang.
The visit will also witness the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) of friendship cities between Bangkok and Penang.This MOU is to be signed between the Mayor of George Town Ar Patahiyah binti Ismail and the Mayor of Bangkok to strengthen not just Government to Government ties but also people to people relationship between both cities.
Such MOU of friendship cities between Penang and the Thai capital demonstrates the growing importance and international profile of Penang in our quest towards Penang being a world class and intelligent city. This is the second time that such a MOU has been signed with capital cities, the first being with Taipei.
Penang has also attracted widespread international attention and positive international media coverage, including Bangkok Post, in transforming Penang into an attractive destination of choice for tourists and location of choice for investors. For the past 2 years, Penang topped investment amongst all states in Penang and despite being the second smallest state contributed nearly 30% of Malaysia’s FDI in 2010 and 2011.
The Chief Minister will also take the opportunity to meet Thai businessmen and industrialist. Recently,Thailand has faced various calamities such as natural disasters and threats of terrorism in the Thai nation. The Chief Minister hopes to extend his solidarity and support to the Thai people.
Condolences will be extended as well as confidence in the ability of the Thai people to overcome these adversities when the Chief Minister meets former Thai Prime Minister and current Opposition Leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, former Minister of Foreign Affairs 2008 – 2011, Kasit Piromya and the current President of the Thailand Trade Representative Kiat Sittheeamorn.
The Chief Minister will be accompanied by his wife, YB Betty Chew, Deputy Chief Minister 1 Yang Berhormat Dato Mansor bin Othman, Deputy Chief Minister 2 YB Professor P. Ramasamy YDP MPPP Patahiyah binti Ismail as well as other state government and MPPP officials for this 2 day trip to Bangkok, Thailand.

首长也将在这次的访问，见证曼谷与槟城签署友好城谅解备忘录的仪式。是项备忘录是由槟岛乔治市市长芭堤雅及曼谷市长代表签署，以加强两地政府及人民之间的联系。
槟城与泰国首都曼谷签下友好城的谅解备忘录，显示了槟城的国际形象以及在国际上的日益重要性，也正是我们所要达到的国际城市与智慧性城市目标。这也是槟城第二次与首都市签署友好城的备忘录，第一次为台北市。
槟城也在近期吸引了包括《曼谷时报》在内的许多国际媒体的广泛关注，并正面报导有关槟城转型成为一个有魅力、游客首选及投资者喜好投资的地点。槟城虽然是全马第二小的州属，但是在过去的两年，我们所获得的投资额连续两度冠全国，并贡献了2010年及2011年马来西亚外国直接投资的30%。
首长也在此行中把握机会，拜访泰国投资者及工业领域人士。最近，泰国也面对了许多天灾人祸，如水灾及泰南的爆炸事件等。首长也希望借此表达对泰国的支持。
代表团将会在访问前任泰国首相兼目前反对党领袖阿比希、泰国前任外交部长卡席特（2008-2011年）及泰国贸易代表机构总裁Kiat Sittheeamorn时，慰问泰国人民，并对泰国人民面对天灾人祸深具信心。
此行陪同首长者，包括首长夫人周玉清、第一副首长拿督曼梳、第二副首长拉玛沙米教授、槟岛市政局主席芭堤雅，以及槟州政府及槟岛市政局官员，展开这为期2天的官访。
