Hasan Ali finally shows 'apostasy' video": Christians scornful of his "lame proof"
Sacked PAS leader Hasan Ali finally showed a 16-minute video clip to the media, which he claims was proof that Christians were on all-out crusade to covert the Muslims in Malaysia.
"The video confession of the two individuals were recorded in 3 versions - 16-minute, 42-minute clips and the unedited version which is 1 hour 30 minutes," Berita Harian reported him as telling a press conference at his house on Monday.
According to the disgraced politician, the confession was voluntary and videotaped in his house. Hasan hosted the taping and two men aged 27 and 40-odd told of their experience in being 'Chistianized'.
The press were not allowed to record the visuals shown by Hasan nor the sound track on the grounds that it would infringe on the rights of the individuals.
Anti-Christian government
Apostasy and proselytizing Muslims is a crime Malaysia, but does not extend to Muslims trying to convert other faiths to Islam. Yet despite such cast-iron rules protecting the Muslim community, Prime Minister Najib Razak's government has tacitly encouraged extremists such as Hasan and his Jati NGO to launch all-out attacks against the Christian community.
Najib and his Umno party have been accused of using religion to win votes from the Malay community, who are all Muslims and is the biggest electorate in the country. With the 13th general election widely expected to be held soon, it is not surprising that Hasan has stepped up the anti-Christian rhetoric.
Christians on the other hand form about 10% of the Malaysian population of 28 million but analysts believe Najib has decided to "sacrifice" them for the larger Muslim electorate.
Hasan thrashed for his dubious tape
Hasan was recently sacked from PAS for indiscipline, and is believed to have turned pro-Umno now. His former colleagues from the Pakatan Rakyat were unimpressed with his latest "feat", which they said was just Hasan's way of currying favor with Najib.
"I think it is clear that the video shows nothing conclusive at all, just two individuals playing to Hasan's script. If Hasan had impeccable integrity, we may think twice but obviously he has none. A man who attacks another religion with lies and false accusations is not only going against Islam but universal good values. We don't need to respect such a person or give too much weight to his actions," PKR vice president Chua Jui Meng, who is a Christian, toldMalaysia Chronicle.
"If Najib thinks he has scored a another coup by getting Hasan into his camp, we say he has fished up another piece of deadwood. It is like a broken record, over and over again. Najib's 1Malaysia was just a slogan and never intended to be reality, otherwise, he should straightaway have set the police onto Hasan for trying arouse communal and religious tensions through dangerous means."
