Nedim's affray: Make public CCTV footage, says MP

The attorney-general (AG) has been asked to make public the CCTV footage of the incident involving de facto law minister Nazri Aziz’s son, in the interest of ascertaining the truth.

“I call upon the AG to make public the official CCTV recording showing the actual events leading to the assault of a security officer allegedly involved in a fracas with a bodyguard of Nazri Aziz’s son at a condominium recently.

“It is (understood) that in matters such as these, the first thing the police will look for are sources such as CCTV recordings to ascertain what actually happened,” said Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo in an email to Malaysiakini yesterday.

Gobind (left) also demanded an explanation from the AG on why an announcement was made about the conclusions of the probe even before reviewing the CCTV footage.

“The credibility of the police is yet again at stake,” said the MP.

Yesterday it was reported that the Brickfields police possessed a copy of the CCTV footage of the incident involving Nazri’s son, Mohamad Nedim Mohd Nazri, and his bodyguard who had allegedly assaulted a security guard supervisor at a posh condominium in Kuala Lumpur last month.

Sources alleged that the footage showed that Nedim was involved in the incident that took place on March 20, despite an announcement by the Brickfields officer in charge of the police district (OCPD) four days later absolving the minister’s son.

OCPD Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid told The Star on March 24 that investigations had been completed and the investigation papers had been sent to the AG’s Chambers.

In light of the conflicting positions of the police on the matter, Gobind said, “It is therefore of critical importance that the recording be made public, at the very least to resolve doubts in the minds of members of the public that investigations in this case were indeed above board and not otherwise as is now alleged.”
