Ramli's allegation is old and done with, says IGP

Inspector-general of police Ismail Omar described the revelations made by former Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Ramli Yusuff as an old allegation.

Ismail said he had not received any new reports over the allegation.

“You are referring to the old story, right? That is done with,” he said to questions from reporters on the Copgate issue.

“I have not received any new reports over the matter. We see that many people have come out to make allegations and he is not alone, but it must be backed by facts and evidence. If there is anything arising, he should follow the system in the country,” he said.

NONEIsmail was asked to comment on the allegations made by Ramli (right), who claimed that former IGP Musa Hassan was backed by underground figure, and that Musa, along with attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail and the then-Anti-Corruption Agency had fixed up him and his men.
Ramli had been calling for the setting-up of a tribunal against Gani and Musa, with him and former Kuala Lumpur CID chief Mat Zain Ibrahim willing to come forward and testify. Musa had however, claimed that he was cleared of any wrongdoing.

The allegation dubbed the ‘Copgate’ affair also featured statutory declaration of informants leading to the shady character Goh Cheng Poh's arrest, describing their turnover process by the ACA.

However, Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein has asked for further evidence to back up the allegation.

Hishammuddin later said there is no need for a new probe into the Copgate affair despite the serious allegations made by Ramli.

Malaysiakini had also reported that former and serving police personnel were willing to testify over the Copgate affair.

Last week, this portal had also highlighted that Musa had allegedly sought the advice of another underworld figure, BK Tan, regarding transfers and promotions of officers in the force. Tan was also reported to have come to Musa’s Petaling Jaya home and also called the shady character for consultations.

This follows the 2009 statutory declaration made by a former aide de camp for Musa, ASP Noor Azizul Rahim Taharim, which is in the public domain, and which was certified by Noor Azizul himself.

Noor Azizul had also told Malaysiakini when the portal tracked him down last week that he was also willing to testify before a tribunal if it is set up.
