Selangor exco man 'slapped' over Serdang market

Selangor executive councillor Ean Yong Hian Wah claimed that he was attacked early this morning by two men whom he alleged had been “politically instigated”.

NONEWhen contacted this morning, Ean Yong said he sustained light injury from the attack, that he believed was related to the relocation of Serdang market.

One attacker slapped him on his face, while the other grabbed his arm, he said.

The incident took place at a restaurant next to the exco member’s service centre in Serdang, Selangor, sometime after 12am today.

Ean Yong, who is from the DAP, said he has a lodged a police report on the incident and has also informed the police that he recognised his attackers.
One of the alleged attackers has since been arrested, the exco told a press conference.

Ean Yong also showed journalists a five-minute video clip of the incident, captured on CCTV installed at the restaurant.

The video shows two men turning up at the restaurant at 12.10am. One of them, dressed in red raises his hand at Ean Yong's face, while the other is seen grabbing his hand.

NONEEan Yong was with more than 20 party members and local community leaders, some of whom came to his aid, after which the two intruders left.

Ean Yong in his police report said the incident made him feel his safety is at risk.

NONEHe said he knowns the man red, having met him when dealing with a market relocation matter in Serdang a few years ago.

"The relocation project was announced to solve the prolonged heavy traffic jam on the main road in Serdang," he said, adding that one of the BN's component parties had then stepped in to influence the hawkers and petty traders involved.

Ean Yong claimed his attacker operates a coffee shop near the Serdang main road.

"His shop was burnt down, back in July 2009, and a place was kept for him in the new market but he refused to communicate with us, nor to move in," he said.
'Attacker influenced by political party'
"Obviously, he was influenced by a political party," he said. The other man with him, who was dressed in white, "has a close relationship with the BN component party".

Ean Yong declined to name the BN party he claimed had "influenced" his attackers.

"Though my safety and that of my assistants are at stake, we will not back down. We will continued to serve the rakyat," he said, when asked his message for his rivals.

He also said that since the tragic death of his political secretary Teoh Beng Hock, he felt the country "is surrouded with a violent political atmosphere".

Ean Yong was accompanied to the police station by his father, Ean Yong Tin Sin, who is Lukut assemblyperson, and Subang Jaya municipal councillors Tai Cheng Heng and Chong Hoon Ming.

Ean Yong Tin Sin was concerned about the attack on his son and said, "The tragic death of Teoh still gnaws at my family... we worry about my son."
