The Selangor government has threatened to take over Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor’s (Syabas) operations for failing in its contractual duties.
At a press conference today, Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim said the company’s failure to provide enough treated water has affected projects managed by 79 developers.
“Syabas is going against the terms of the concession agreement signed by the federal government, state government and the concessionaire on Dec 15.
“It seems as though Syabas is intentionally trying to hamper Selangor’s economic development,” he said.
Speaking to reporters after chairing the state exco meeting, Khalid said the state government has the right to terminate the concession and take over Syabas.

Khalid said that a notice has been submitted by deputy state secretary Noordin Sulaiman to Syabas on March 29, informing them of the threat.
The menteri besar was accompanied by exco members Ronnie Liu and Dr Halimah Ali during the press conference.
On the recent floods in Klang, Liu urged the federal government to stop blaming the state government over the issue.
Liu said the federal government should admit to withholding RM1 billion in funds for flood mitigation works to the state irrigation and drainage department.
“All applications for such funds for Selangor, including Klang, was not approved,” said Liu, whose portfolio includes local government, research and development.
