So clean and fair elections not 'national interest'
YOURSAY 'Pro-rakyat event organisers should not bother applying for permits. It is like asking Umno for permission to protest against them.'
DBKL says no to Bersih rally at Dataran Merdeka
Veritas et Aeuqtias: Is anybody surprised that Umno (DBKL branch) would do this? Do they think they have any grounds (pun intended) to deny the rakyat from gathering peacefully?
The April 28 sit-in can be a great day out for everyone that will show the world that Malaysia is a fair country.
But no, Umno (DBKL branch) thinks that BN will be in power forever. Poor things are in for a rude awakening after GE13. Unemployment awaits them.
Anonymous #43051382: Everyone on planet Earth already knew the answer would be a 'no' since Bersih announced the venue.
Whatever, just proceed with the rally. Kuala Lumpur is controlled by Pakatan Rakyat as they won 10 out of the 11 parliamentary seats in the area. Since Pakatan has said yes, we should just go ahead and ignore the DBKL (Kuala Lumpur City Hall) minions.
Most important of all, Malaysians must come out to vote for change at GE13 as a large voters turnout will hopefully neutralise the phantom/illegal voters planted by BN.
Lim Chong Leong: The sad state of our affairs is that Umno has planted their stooges everywhere and they are going all out against the rakyat's wishes on this.
They are everywhere - from DBKL to Putrajaya, from KTM stations to Dataran Merdeka, and from police to EC (Election Commission).
Anon-23; To hell with the KL mayor. Does he not realise the people of KL voted overwhelmingly for the opposition in 2008?
Here, Umno is playing good cop, bad cop. The home minister is okaying the event (how magnanimous), and the police are remaining silent but they already know full well ahead that DBKL will not allow the Dataran to be used.
Dataran is only for national events, my foot. Nothing could be more national than a people's rally for clean and fair elections.
It seems to me that Umno (MCA and MIC don't count any more in my book) is against clean and fair elections because they are the very people who have rigged the electoral roll with the cooperation of the EC of course.
Batang Kali has 40,000 voters, which is utterly unbelievable for a small township in a rural constituency. Najib sure is desperate and is peeing in his pants.
Mat Malaysia: The "national events" excuse is bollocks. Nestle held their 100th anniversary in Dataran a few weeks back. Was that a "national event"?
Anonymous #88568176: Do we need to bother whether DBKL approves or not? The BN government and DBKL are servants of the people and if the people want to sit in Dataran Merdeka, they have a right to it, and no idiot in the country has the authority to say yes or no.
We will be there no matter what and how BN or DBKL act to block it. Let us walk from every and all direction on foot, sun or rain, young and old, hand in hand to show all Malaysians and the world that the people are the boss, not BN, Pakatan or anyone else.
Crony-x: Everyone (in BN) is afraid to comment on Bersih 3.0 for fear that their popularity (if there is any left) in the next GE goes into the red.
Not a word from Ah Jib Gor (Brother Najib), Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein says okay (but deep down in his heart, God knows), and the police seems to have quietly passed the buck to DBKL. So DBKL is the scapegoat.
Pitbull: Pro-rakyat event organisers should not bother applying for permits. It is like asking Umno permission to protest against them. The rakyat is the boss, why ask your servants for permission?
Anonymous #66797900: Forget about permits and permission, just do what has been planned.
Malaysia has reached a stage where the only national activities allowed are: assaulting innocent students, disrupting opposition gatherings, insulting and threatening the Penang CM and damaging his car and that of Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim's, displaying rude slogans and lies on posters depicting Pakatan and Bersih leaders, urinating, like dogs, on posters of Lim Kit Siang and Guan Eng, and a free licence for hooligans and mat rempit to terrorise the public.
All steps to be taken to right the wrongs of the last 50 over years are legitimate, so no permission needs to be obtained from those very people.
Gandhi: Anything connected to national issues is national. Every issue concerning Malaysian citizens is a national issue. I think DBKL meant "BN's event" when it said "national".
Bender: Mr Mayor, do you seriously think that Bersih will back off simply because you rejected their application?
Bersih is actually doing you a favour - showing the rakyat that as an institution DBKL is an entity that we should respect and that in this country of ours we should respect the law. It's a courteous gesture on Bersih's part to apply for the permit.
By denying the application, you have rendered DBKL an institution not worth the respect.
Anyone with a speck of intelligence can see that you will not approve Bersih's application (and the reason you gave for not approving is utterly pathetic, really), because the decision is not yours to make, it's Umno's - the puppeteer behind you and the women-kicking thugs.
The irony of it is come April 28, Dataran Merdeka will truly be living up to its name, thanks to your and Umno's colonialist mentality. - Malaysiakini

Hi datuk bandar, don’t behave like a dictator! You are appointed by the BN baru government as a caretaker of the property of city offices and the collection of monies from the people. You don’t represent the citizens of the CITY of KUALA LUMPUR.
ReplyDeleteBy rights and democratic convention, the Datuk Bandar should be elected among the nine MPs (of Pakatan Rakyat) out of 10 MPs elected by universal suffrage in 2008 by all the citizens of the CITY. The Datuk Bandar is the people’s representative. Dataran Merdeka is the property of the CITY and its people; and 90% of the city folks want to hold a two or three hour national function there, is there a problem? You better act judiciously to the interest and needs of the citizens.
