A college student has claimed trial to a charge of obstructing a Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) officer from carrying out his duties while attempting to apprehend an ‘Occupy Dataran’ activist.
Umar Mohd Azmi (left), who turned 23 today, was charged today under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing Mohd Masran Mamat from "apprehending and escorting" activist Mohd Fahmi Reza Mohd Zarin.
This allegedly occurred during a surprise DBKL raid on a protest camp at Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur about 8am yesterday.

He is the first of the 'Occupy Dataran' protestors to face a criminal charge.
If found guilty, Umar can be jailed for up to two years or fined a maximum of RM10,000 or both.

Magistrate Zaki Asyraf Zubir set bail at RM1,000 - although DPP Wong Chai Sia had asked for RM4,000 - and fixed mention of the case on May 8.
Defence counsel Syahredzan Johan, arguing for a lower quantum of bail, said is a private student with no source of income.
He added that the Consist College student poses no flight risk, and that this is his first criminal charge.
Speaking to Malaysiakini later, Syahredzan said Mohd Fahmi Reza(right) has not been charged.
"He was released on police bail yesterday and needs to report to the police in a month," he said.
Today marks the ninth day of the protest at Dataran Merdeka. Yesterday, DBKL had confiscated tents and equipment set up at the site.
The protest site is shared by two movements - the Occupy Dataran movement to reclaim public spaces, and the Anti-National Higher Education Fund loan movement comprising students.
