Visit to Sandakan market marred by power blackout
The electricity disruption which occurred when Prime Minister Najib Razak visited the Kim Fung market in Sandakan this morning, was due to unforeseen high voltage underground cable fault.
In a statement here today, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) managing director Abd Razak Sallim said, power was restored in stages within five minutes of the disruption at 8.35am.
"A stand-by team and our contingency measure to position generator sets at certain strategic locations also reduced the impact of the disruption," he said.
He said the incident affected about 7,000 consumers in the areas spanning between Batu 4 and Batu 7, Bandar Indah Jaya, IJM, Giant Sandakan and in the vicinity of Jalan Airport.
"SESB regrets the inconvenience caused and will continue to implement initiatives to improve electricity supply," he added.
