The record 3,611,323 patriotic tweets within an hour during the 'Promises Fulfilled' gathering on Aug 31, was not an impossibility as they were sen by twitter users nationwide, said Information Communication and Culture Deputy Minister Maglin Dennis D'Cruz.
Denying that the government had used a twitter bot to manipulate the figure, he said the number of people attending the event at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium was already 100,000, while Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's twitter followers were more than 870,000.
"If they tweeted repeatedly, coupled with the tweets from users from around the country, the total cannot be misleading," he told reporters after launching the Minnalfm 2012 Merdeka Kembara Book at Kuala Lumpur.
D'Cruz was commenting on a portal report of a statement by an independant online research agency, PoliTweet.org which purportedly claimed that a twitter bot was used in the “Tweet #Merdeka55”.
"We made eleborate preparations to ensure we reached our one million target, to the extent even ministry staff went out of their way to woo twitter friends and followers to support us in the endeavour," he said.
He said the claim was made by irresponsible parties which were envious of the prime minister's support from the people.
