DAP to Wan Ahmad: Butt out of parties' internal affairs

The DAP today blunted told Election Commission deputy chairperson Wan Ahmad Wan Imar to keep his nose out of the internal affairs of political parties.

Describing Wan Ahmad's comments on DAP's election results mistake as "unwarranted and unbecoming", the party's vice-chairperson Teresa Kok said the EC is supposed to be non-partisan.

NONE"The EC should maintain its statutory neutrality and refrain from poking its nose into the affairs of political parties.

"Wan Ahmad should not forget the series of embarrassing mistakes and rectification of polls results of the EC," Kok (right) said.

He was quoted in The Star as describing what had happened in the DAP elections as hilarious with a winner being declared a loser and vice versa - weeks after party polls.

"We do not know if the changes are reflective of the voice of the committee, the members or certain individuals (in the party).

One who laughs first

"I could not help but laugh when I heard that DAP suddenly realised that there was an error almost a month after polls, and immediately endorsed a loser as winner and a winner as loser," he was reported to have said.

"What kind of democracy is this? Is this a joke? If it is, then they have certainly made a mockery of democracy," the EC deputy chairperson was quoted to have said.

Kok ,in her statement, then listed down EC's blunders which included three months after the March 21, 2004, general elections, a returning officer saying that iKalthom Othman of PAS had been as erroneously declared the  winner of the Pasir Puteh seat, when  it was actually Umno candidate Che Min Che Ahmad.
Similarly in the Seputeh parliamentary seat contest which Kok had contended for, her winning majority of 12,895 was bigger than what had been was announced earlier and this is recorded in the EC gazette.

She said these two 2004 general election results reveal show that the EC only rectify its results months after they had been announcement upon the discovery errors in the initial declarations.

"I urge Wan Ahmad to maintain his neutrality as EC deputy chairperson and stop commenting on political parties's internal affairs, including party polls results.

"He should look at his own backyard and make sure EC will run clean and fair general elections in 2013," added Kok.
