Deepak denies any political backing, or jewellery bills

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 2 — Deepak Jaikishan has denied getting political backing for his conspiracy claims or the documents revealed by PKR showing transactions between the carpet dealer’s companies and jewellers in Hong Kong.

PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli has said the documents were proof of the controversial businessman’s involvement as a jewellery middleman for a local dignitary was more than a rumour.

“Honestly I don’t know what he was talking about,” Deepak(picture) told a press conference here today.

“I don’t know what documents he was talking about. I’ve never seen them.”

The businessman however did not deny that the companies whose names were in the documents — Carpet Raya Sdn Bhd and Carpet Plus Sdn Bhd — were owned by him.

“I owned those companies, but I don’t own those documents. That document is not my document,” he said.

Deepak was also distressed by Rafizi’s revelation today, claiming that the PKR strategy director was doing so to further his political mileage.

“Don’t use my crusade for truth for your political mileage. I don’t appreciate it at all,” he warned.

Rafizi had revealed bank transaction records between Deepak and two jewellery suppliers amounting to US$4 million (RM12.15 million), saying the purchases were excessive for one man.

“Logically if you look at the summary of accounts ... Deepak bought and paid progressively a total of US$3.66 million for jewellery. I can’t say that Deepak bought all of them for himself,” he told a press conference.

Rafizi provided the press with copies of transaction records, including one for a US$115,000 purchase of polished diamonds from Dehres Ltd, a fine jewellery supplier from Hong Kong.

Another document detailed transactions worth US$3.9 million involving the purchases of rings, necklaces and earrings from Firestone Co Ltd, another Hong Kong-based fine jewellery supplier.

Rafizi had contacted both Dehres and Firestone, but has not received any response from the companies.
