BIDOR, Jan 5 — Malaysia’s significant achievements which are almost better than developed countries in a variety of sectors besides being recognised by many international bodies is the result of the policies of Barisan Nasional (BN) government, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
He said the nation’s excellent record did not happen by chance as it required planning, courage and foresight of the BN leadership and support of the people.
“It could not have happened without our effort to put Malaysia on par with other developed countries ...we already have the ranking (among best in the world), we do not sit idly by, going unnoticed.
“To be an even more successful country needs good planning. Malaysia is becoming an even greater nation, a shining star, more and more successful because of the policies of the BN government,” he said when addressing a gathering of representatives of Parent-Teacher Associations, Teachers Clubs and Perak young generation NGOs at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bidor here today.
He said the BN government’s policies were the result of its leaders listening to the people’s problems and their stories at the grassroots level when they went down to the ground.
Muhyiddin also did a walkabout and sat in coffe shops to obtain input from people from various strata of society such as taxi drivers, farmers who are ex-servicemen, students as well as hawkers.
“I would like to ask which country in the world does like what the Malaysian government has done in meeting the people’s aspirations...not one, twice but always. The answer is Malaysia, so the government (BN) should be supported,” he said.
He said an important factor to becoming an advanced country was human capital development, based on knowledge and education, and that this had been established by leaders in the past.
“The government has invested a huge amount of the country’s resources to build schools in all nooks and corners of the country, provided education training for teachers who today exceed 500,000 people apart from providing facilities in schools and a dynamic education system,” he said.
Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, said the BN had long devoted 26 per cent of its national budget to the education sector and today, millions of citizens were educated with skills and knowledge towards building the country to what it is today.
Apart from that, the Deputy Prime Minister said the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025 which was readied last year would be presented to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on Monday.
He said the plan would be later be presented to the Conference of Rulers for their consent before implementation.
In September last year, Najib had launched the Initial Report of the 2013-2025 National Education Development Blueprint which outlines 11 strategic and operational shifts to change the national education system.
Among the outlined areas are equal access to quality education of international standard to ensure each student is fluent in Bahasa Malaysia and English, to develop the nation focusing on noble values and making teaching a profession of choice.
At the event, Muhyiddin also presented a mock cheque for RM45 million from the federal government as school assistance to students in Perak, RM4.2 million as grant to Parent-Teacher Associations and Teachers’ Clubs in the state from the state government as well as RM50,000 for the Perak Youth Council. — Bernama
