“The Home Ministry is in charge of the situation and the police have the powers to handle it. We are fully prepared, to take over anytime upon receiving orders,” said Defence deputy minister Datuk Dr Abdul Latif Ahmad today.
He was commenting on the Armed Forces’ role in handling the Lahad Datu incident, during a press conference after the launching of the National Blue Ocean Strategy book, at the Defence Ministry here.
Abdul Latif said people had a right to have accurate information and know the latest developments on what was happening in Sabah, but advised them to refrain from speculating about the incident.
Meanwhile, in Lahad Datu, Armed Forces Chief Gen Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin confirmed the beefing up of tactical logistics and battalions from outside Sabah to help the police maintain peace.
“We will collaborate with the police to safeguard the peace and well-being of the people in the state,” he told a press conference, which was attended by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar.
