Portals, bloggers told not to make negative comments on Sulu intrusion

KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 — The Special Affairs Department (Jasa) has taken several media portals and bloggers to task for putting out irresponsible comments on the intrusion of Filipino armed men in Lahad Datu, Sabah to avoid misinterpretation.
Its director-general, Datuk Fuad Tan Sri Hassan said it was unbecoming of several portals to claim that the intrusion reflected the government’s weakness in dealing with the situation.
“At the time when the country is facing a security threat, they should display patriotic spirit instead of making negative assumptions on what is going on,” he told reporters after opening the Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Keramat’s parent-teacher association annual general meeting here today.
While some portals and bloggers claimed that the intrusion is a government conspiracy, others asserted that the standoff and death of police commandoes in the ensuing gun battle to the government’s weakness in dealing with the situation.
Fuad urged the people to rely on official sources on the latest development of the situation to ensure that they get accurate reports.
“The Lahad Datu’s intrusion is a security issue and not a political issue although it entails a complex historical attachment not understood by non-Sabahans,” he said.
He said the people should give their trust to the security forces to resolve the matter and restore peace in Sabah. — Bernama
