Ku Nan: Sentul fire victims not forced out
The fire victims in Kampung Chubadak, Sentul here were not forced to move out of the evacuation centre but had to vacate the place as it had been booked much earlier for a wedding reception.
Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor disclosed this to clear the air on the Malaysiakini article yesterday entitled 'Mangsa Kebakaran Dipaksa Pindah Dari Pusat Perlindungan', and 'Menteri Digesa Timbang Rayuan Mangsa Kebakaran'.
"The DBKL (Kuala Lumpur City Hall) had earlier offered houses to the victims at the Bukit Jalil PPR (Projek Perumahan Rakyat) on Aug 13," he said in a statement today.
A fire broke out at Kampung Chubadak on Aug 8 as Muslims were beginning to celebrate Aidilfitri and two days later, another fire broke out at Kampung Puah Bahagia in Sentul which destroyed 31 squatter houses.
Tengku Adnan said all the families affected by the fire who had agreed to move out would receive a compensation of RM1,000 and had received disaster aid of RM300 from DBKL besides the provision of lorries to help the affected families move to PPR Bukit Jalil.
