Lack of proof, police bins sexual abuse probe

Woman lodged police report against school official for allegedly molesting her daughter but school official is mulling over suing the girl's family after the police shuts case.
PETALING JAYA: Due to the lack of evidence, the police has closed its investigation on the alleged molest of a 16-year-old student, which was reported by FMT on Aug 12.
In the article, a 39-year-old cleaner alleged that the Deputy Chairman of the Parent-Teacher’s Association (PIBG) of a school in Damansara had inappropriately touched her daughter during a body check on March 21 in the presence of a teacher.
However, the police opened an investigation only after a second report was made by the girl’s mother against the official. The woman also lodged a report against the police and the school for allegedly failing to take action after her earlier report.
However today the police told FMT the case has been closed.
“There is insufficient evidence to support the case and it has been closed by the Deputy of Public Prosecution (DPP),” said the Petaling Jaya police district head Arjunaidi Mohammad.
The mother made the first police report on March 21 but did not receive a response from the police or the school, compelling the mother to lodge the second report.
The school dismissed the mother’s claim saying that there was no physical contact between the alleged perpetrator and the victim, though admitting that it was wrong for the PIBG official to barge into the class and reprimand a student.
Meanwhile, the PIBG official said he was contemplating legal action against the family of the student for slander, claiming that his image has been tarnished.
“I will sue the family of the student for defaming me as the issue has affected my family and I, badly,” he said.
