DAP has thrown the gauntlet at the Registrar of Societies (ROS), urging its chief Abdul Rahman Othman to meet the party’s leader after Hari Raya.
Party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said Abdul Rahman should meet with him to explain why he would rather believe "unsubstantiated lies instead of facts verified by an accounting firm".
He blamed pro-BN media New Straits Times and Utusan Malaysia for the "unsubstantiated lies", and urged Abdul Rahman to state the reasons for DAP to conduct fresh elections.
Lim had written a letter to Abdul Rahman requesting the meeting.
"ROS has repeatedly behaved unprofessionally, unethically and even unlawfully by making media announcements that have no factual or legal basis," Lim said in a statement today.
"Worse, the ROS makes announcements in the media without any written replies, giving the strong impression of wanting to politicise the issue for the benefit of BN instead of fulfilling its duties in regulating the Societies Act impartially and lawfully," he added.

'New directive an act of political victimisation'
Lim said Abdul Rahman was behaving as if he were the "king" for reiterating in the press that DAP must conduct fresh elections without needing to give reasons.
He queried if Abdul Rahman had refused to give reasons for his decision because there were no valid reasons.
"ROS' refusal to meet with me only validates the party's fears that this new directive is an act of political victimisation and revenge against DAP," Lim said.
DAP and ROS have been at loggerheads since the ROS directed the party to hold fresh elections.
ROS decided this after several disgruntled members lodged complaints with it on DAP's central executive committee election in Penang last December.

Complaints abounded after DAP issued a public declaration that there was a technical glitch in the polls results, resulting in wrong announcement of successful candidates.
The corrected report, announced early this year, was certified by an independent auditor, Lim said.
The candidate wrongfully announced to be in the 20-member CEC was Vincent Wu instead of Lim's political secretary Zairil Khir Johari, who is also Bukit Bendera MP.
