Center director Ibrahim Suffian in an email to The Malaysian Insider explained that Subramaniam only won by a majority of 658 votes.
He said postal and early votes contributed a total of 602 votes for Subramaniam. Overall, BN received 19,435 votes compared with PKR’s 18,777 votes.
“The spoilt votes were 950. Out of that, 70 were postal and seven were early votes. Unreturned votes were 88, out of which, 75 of them were postal votes and 13 were ordinary votes.
“If these rejected and unreturned votes were to be accumulated, it would come up to 1,038. Hence, it is reasonable to say that early and postal votes of 603 helped BN capture the Segamat seat,” he said.
Ibrahim said without the number of postal and early votes, BN would have lost because of the large number of spoilt votes.
Yesterday, Subramaniam dismissed Merdeka Center’s findings which found that BN would have lost the Segamat seat during the last election without the early and postal votes.
Subramaniam said BN won comfortably in Segamat as they obtained 99.26% of the ordinary votes while the early and postal voters only made up 0.73% of the total votes.
