Najib: Umno is not like DAP

Umno is a party that plays by the rules, including the party's election of office bearers, and had never faced any protest.
PENDANG: Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak said a credible political party was one that must be ready to walk the talk.
Najib who is also Umno president said Umno was a party that played by the rules, including the party’s election of office bearers, and had never faced any protest.
He said in contrast, DAP that allegedly failed to notify 753 members of its Central Executive Committee (CEC) election that was held last year, cannot be said to have followed what it preached.
“This is not about a small number or big number. The question is why does a party like DAP that claims to be practice democracy and principle of law, abuse of power, etc.
“However, when it comes to their own election, they (DAP) have allegedly failed to follow the proper procedure,” he told reporters here, today after opening the Settlers Day 2013 celebration at Felda Sg Tiang, here, today.
On July 30, the Registrar of Societies (ROS) ordered DAP to hold its CEC election again, saying it was not satisfied with the explanation given by the party on the issue of voting irregularities and manipulation involving 547 delegates during the previous party’s CEC election on Dec 15.
Yesterday, DAP chairman Karpal Singh said the CEC had resolved to hold fresh elections, in the interest of the party, despite its stand that the directive from the ROS did not have the sanctity of authority of law.
Najib said the action and directive of the ROS was in accordance with the law and added that if Umno were issued a similar directive by the ROS, the party would be ready to rectify any mistakes.
“When Umno was said to be illegal by the court. We accepted it and build from scrap. We must practice what we preach, only then will a political party be known as a credible party,” he said.
