Namewee's new film too rancid for Utusan

Namewee's third feature film Kara King has earned the thumbs down from Utusan Malaysia, particularly over the opening scene where the lead character accidentally urinates on a Malay couple.

According an article titled 'Kenapa masih buta? (Why are we still blind?)' today, the scene was an attempt to display Namewee's alleged disdain for the Malay community.

The scene involved Namewee relieving himself on the side of a street before attempting turning around, accidentally urinating on the couple passing by on a motorcycle, in order to bribe a police officer.

"What was Namewee trying to get across in this scene? Corruption and urinating on Malays. Is this Chinese culture in Malaysia?

"If a Malay film depicted the same, there will be those who will be unhappy and will blow up the issue and cause multiple postponements as had happened to Tanda Putera," wrote author Rasdan Ahmad, who added that the scene was not funny and should not be overlooked.

The author also took offence that the movie primarily comprised of a Chinese cast with a handful of Malays and Indians in the mix, which will give the wrong impression of the country's ethnic composition when screened overseas.

"It is expected that this film will pioneer a new phenomenon about non-Malays dominating the country," wrote the author.

Kara King, which features Taiwanese and Hong Kong actors as well, is scheduled for release in several Asian countries.

In closing, the author poured scorn on the Film Censorship Board (LPF) for not censoring the urinating scene, drawing comparisons with how the board initially approved The New Village.

"Is it too difficult to read Namewee's agenda to insult Malays in this film? The portrayal of Malays being urinated upon by the Chinese survived and it was not thought of by the LPF?" wrote the author.
