Sacked and suspended DAP members can vote in polls

Sacked or suspended DAP members are eligible to return as delegates and vote when the party re-elects its central executive committee (CEC) on Sept 29.

Party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng announced today that all members who were either sacked or suspended by the party’s disputed CEC line-up post-December 2012, will be allowed to vote in accordance to the old delegates list.

The re-election of the CEC will be taking place in a yet to be confirmed location within the Klang Valley, Lim said.

“All 17 members who were either sacked or suspended can come back as delegates if they wish to and vote,” he said during a press conference at DAP headquarters today.

The candidates list will also follow the same candidates list that was in place during the disputed 2012 CEC election, which took place last December in Penang.

“The candidates list will be the same, except for one name,” Lim said.

The only difference in the candidates list would be the absence of John Fernandez, the former Seremban MP who resigned from the party prior to the general election in May.

Meanwhile, Lim (left in photo) also said that the party will be obtaining a certificate of posting for all the invitations sent to its delegates so that it can’t be accused of not notifying all delegates again.

“We will not give the Registrar of Societies (ROS) reason to find similar excuses against DAP,”  he said.

The last CEC election was disputed due to a “technical glitch” that caused a mistabulation of votes, and this time Lim said his party has appointed an international accounting firm to monitor the counting process.

Lim stressed that the party was holding the re-election “in protest” and was only complying with ROS in order to prevent de-registration.
