Sanjeevan to decide on surgery when he wakes up
MyWatch chairperson R Sri Sanjeevan will make the decision on the removal of the bullet lodged in his body once he regains consciousness, said his father P Ramakrishnan.
He explained that Sanjeevan's lung infection is a more imminent threat to Sanjeevan's life and is therefore of greater concern, whereas the bullet is not causing any immediate problems.
"The surgery is not important. The doctors say what is important is his life," he said when contacted by Malaysiakini today.
Sanjeevan has been unconscious since July 27 after being shot in the ribcage in what is believed to be an assassination attempt.
He has been breathing with the aid of ventilators and remains heavily sedated.
Ramakrishnan added that have been no further threats of physical violence against Sanjeevan since the shooting.
Nevertheless, he said the police have provided the anti-crime activist with "very good" security, with four police personnel keeping watch at any given time.
He added that Sanjeevan is recovering slowly from a lung infection he acquired about a week ago and his fever has subsided.
