Selangor to hold forum on GE manifesto

SHAH ALAM: Have something to say about what you want the Selangor government to do in 2014?

Then watch out for the public forum on the implementation of the Pakatan Rakyat General Election Manifesto.

"The forum will be held at the local authority level where elected representatives will discuss with the people on the manifesto and how it should be implemented," said Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim at a press conference today.

Feedback from the forum will be taken into account in the preparation of the 2014 budget, he said.

As for the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant issue, Khalid said the Selangor government has accepted Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili's challenge to resolve it within three months.

"We planned for discussions to begin in September. However, the goal set by Ongkili is far more stringent, and we welcome it.

"We have sent two letters to initiate discussion between the involved parties," he said.

Meanwhile, Selangor Education, Higher Education and Human Capital Development Committee chairman Dr Halimah Ali said an integrated security operations room has been set up to assist Selangor students who are still in Egypt.

"The operations room is (managed)by Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) through the Islamic Education department. It began operations on Monday," said Halimah.

There are currently 1,479 Selangor students in Egypt.

"We hope that students who have returned on their own accord will contact Jais to update their status," she said.
