PM Najib should rap Muhyiddin over tasteless Azizan joke
SG LIMAU Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has been asked to advise his deputy Muhyiddin Yassin to behave and refrain from using the late Azizan Abdul Razak to justify the abolition of the sugar subsidy.
PAS vice-president Mahfuz Omar said Najib should ask his deputy to speak with some sense of respect.
"I'm very saddened and disappointed to learn that Muhyiddin specifically referred to Azizan to defend the government's move," he told a press conference at PAS' operations centre in Sungai Limau today.
Muhyiddin yesterday at a school event during the by-election campaign justified abolishing the sugar subsidy by pointing to the late Sungai Limau rep.
The former Kedah menteri besar had his legs amputated prior to his death, due to diabetes.
The DPM used Azizan's fate to illustrate how the government's move was correct as removing the subsidy was purportedly aimed at reducing sugar intake to avoid diabetes.
"The worst thing is, those who attended the event told me that Muhyiddin said that in jest. How can he not consider the feelings of the deceased's family?" Mahfuz said.
"It was exactly a month ago yesterday since we lost Azizan, and it's not rational for Muhyiddin to say such thing," he said, pointing out that it was Oct 26 yesterday and Azizan passed away on Sept 26.
Muhyiddin, he quipped, should not add greater damage to Najib, whom he described as a "wounded prime minister".
