STOP YOUR MAHARAJA WAYS! Najib, Rosmah told to emulate Hsien Loong & fly first class
KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak and wife Rosmah Mansor are known for their lavish lifestyle and love for overseas luxury.
In fact, Najib scooted off to the United States on an official visit once it was confirmed that he had won uncontested the Umno presidency, which would allow him to continue leading the country.
He is seldom unaccompanied by wife Rosmah Mansor, who is notorious for her legenday shopping sprees and love of diamonds and Birkin handbags.
Repent your excessive lifestyle, spending duo told
All in, Najib was in Parliament for only a few hours during the latest session which ends today.
Not surprisingly, he has been taken to task for his perceived frivolous and 'Maharaja-like' ways.
Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming minced no words on Thursday, telling the PM to “change his lifestyle” and save more for the sake of the people, who were finding it tough to make ends meet amid escalating costs of living.
According to Kor Ming, the Prime Minister’s Department had given him a written reply to his query that it cost RM86.4 million to rent a private jet for Najib for his official trips.
In addition, RM16.515 million was spent on maintenance of the jets and RM3.32 million for repair.
Look at Hsien Loong
By comparison, Kor Ming pointed out that Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong travelled by commercial flights, in the first-class, so as to reduce public expenditure.
"From 2010 to 2013, the government paid RM86.4 million in rent for Najib's private jet," Nga told reporters at the Parliament on Thursday.
"In total, RM100.47 million was forked out for Najib's private jet in only three years."
He said in addition to the cost of the private jet, a whopping RM42 million was spent annually on Najib's foreign trips since 2008.
“He (Najib) should lead by example,” chided Nga.
