A PAS leader has made an impassioned plea to his Pakatan Rakyat colleagues to stop the public warfare and convene a Pakatan presidential council immediately to settle all problems definitively.
"Please my friends, wake up from the preoccupation and ruthless cyclical trap with this destruction and shouting, enough is enough of destroying Pakatan Rakyat!
"Immediately convene a Pakatan presidential council meeting to arrest the self-destruction without waiting for (the PAS central committee meeting) on Aug 10 to manage this terrible crisis," said PAS central committee member Dzulkefly Ahmad in a message this morning.
He said waiting 10 days for a meeting was "too long in politics, and the mass media", reminding his colleagues that their fierce in-fighting is being conducted in full public view.
"It would be a tragedy if Pakatan Rakyat ends here…," he added.
Civil war now in PAS itself
Urging his colleagues to stop “shooting among themselves”, he pointed out how their faces have been making the front pages of newspapers.
“Isn’t it weird that you are given the space (on the front pages of newspapers)?
“The space is given because you are shooting among yourselves! Stop doing so because you are only the laughing stock of our political rivals.”
The former Kuala Selangor MP lamented how the rakyat’s perception on them has changed, where party members are seen to only fight for the interests of their cliques.
He also disagreed that only divine intervention can save Pakatan at this point, saying that Allah will not change a man’s fate unless he himself wants to change it.
“The priority now is to unite everyone in a particular organisation. If the party leadership fails to do this, history will punish you.
“You (warring PAS members) will be seen as the ones who permitted for Pakatan to split and will be seen as the ones responsible in triggering the crisis."
Inconsequential? Or did Hadi cross the line?
Meanwhile, Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) president Abdullah Zaik Abdul Rahman said this case has shown PAS’ position in the Pakatan alliance to be “inconsequential (melukut di tepi gantang)”.
According to Ismaweb, Abdullah accused PAS of lowering its dignity to DAP and this, he said, does not reflect a Muslim’s characteristics of honour and courage to stand alone.
He further warned that this has the potential to destroy Islam and the Malays if Pakatan is allowed to rule. - Mkini
